Chemoradiation is the use of chemotherapy and radiation concurrently.

Chemotherapy

The chemotherapy used in chemoradiation is one of the following:

  • 5FU given by continuous infusion pump or
  • 5FU given bolus or
  • Oral capecitabine.

    Radiation

    The radiation used in chemoradiation is EBRT and usually given Monday through Friday, for 5-6 weeks.

    When radiation is given with chemotherapy, the side effects are often worse than when radiation is given by itself.
